the Tennyson Middle School Varsity Orchestra had a super and successful weekend performing at the Heartland Music Festival

It is with great honor and pride that I inform all of my colleagues and the Texan community that the Tennyson Middle School Varsity Orchestra had a super and successful weekend performing at the Heartland Music Festival in the Oklahoma City region (the largest music festival of its kind in the US, serving over 20,000 students every year!).  They came away with so many awards and honors that I could hardly keep up with it!

First off, special congratulations to Kirah Johnson (our concert mistress) and Angela Gonzalez (String Bass) for their individual awards of outstanding soloists/musicians.  Then our entire viola and cello sections (Evelyn Guevara and Paul Rougley, violas, Todd Clayton, Melissa Moya, Viviana Ramirez, and Izabel Weaver) won the outstanding section awards.

Finally, the TMS Varsity Orchestra won a "Superior" rating (the same as a 1 at UIL), and both the "Outstanding Achievement" and the "Judges Choice" awards, making our orchestra the 1st place top middle school orchestra at our site.

After over a five hour drive to get there, through some pretty tough thunderstorms, the students arrived and acted like true professionals, representing Tennyson Middle School with great maturity.  I received many compliments from the staff from the Heartland Music Festival on their wonderful behavior and professionalism.  The entire Tennyson community should be very proud of them.  If you see any of them in the hallways or in your classes, please congratulate all of them.

Love being a Texan and showing that "True Grit!"
